Associate Pastor Position Description

Title: Associate Pastor

Report to: Senior Pastor

Category: Full time associate staff

Salary: $60,000 to $85,000 (commensurate with experience with health insurance benefits)

Job Description and Qualifications

Joy Christian Fellowship (JCF) is a two-site church with locations in New Jersey and Manhattan. This Associate Pastor position will be for the Englewood, NJ church site and its main role will be to shepherd and lead the Englewood congregation with collaboration and direction from Sr. Pastor and support of the Council of Elders.

Joy Christian Fellowship at Englewood is a non-denominational church (formerly with KPCA) with approximately 250 adults and 150 children.  Currently, 90% of congregants at this location are 2nd generation Korean-Americans.  Please visit the church website for additional information at joychurch.com.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in theological studies; preferably M. Div.
  • 3 years of full-time ministry experience with oversight of various ministries and groups
  • Good preaching competency with preaching experience during a Sunday worship service at regular intervals
  • Proven leadership characteristics and understanding of leadership development in a church ministry context (managing, teaching, training, etc)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Agree to beliefs as stated by Gospel Coalition organization (with one difference being that Joy adheres to egalitarianism per bylaw)
  • Understanding of spiritual gifts to build a local church
  • Able to provide character and professional references


  • Provide pastoral care including regular visitations to congregation members
  • Equip leaders through discipleship and mentorship
  • Oversee several ministries to support and develop it for church health and growth
  • Preach 6 to 12 times per year at Sunday worship service and other large group gatherings
  • Conduct/attend regular meetings with the deacons, church staff, and lay leaders
  • Plan and manage church calendar and its activities/events in collaboration with staff and lay leaders
