Reporting Relationships and Role Purpose:
The New Life Kid’s Director will report to the Education Pastor. The role of the New Life Kid’s
director is to support the discipleship and spiritual care of the covenant children of New Life Pres,
which includes both the interaction and care with students and parents. The director may be asked
to serve in other capacities/ ministries as the session sees fit.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. General
a. Create a grace-filled, enthusiastic learning environment
b. Serve as a welcoming presence for regular and new parents and their children
c. Work with Pastor and session to form practical strategies based on New Life Pres’s
vision and philosophy of ministry
d. Develop and implement a vision aligned to the vision and mission of New Life Pres
e. Work with New Life Pres’s Education Pastor to coordinate education matters
f. Work with Welcoming Ministry to plug newcomers and regular attenders into each
demographic-specific ministry
2. Weekly Responsibilities
a. Coordinate logistics of children’s ministry service and Sunday school (including but
not limited to communicating with Sunday teachers and staff, coordinating songs,
slide presentations, substitute teachers, etc.)
b. Prepare and present a short devotional (in accord with New Life Pres’s Reformed in
Theology core value) for children’s service
c. Prepare weekly Sunday school materials for teachers and staff
3. Administration & Communication
a. Recruit and schedule Sunday volunteers for the year
b. Order and distribute curriculum materials each quarter (or as needed)
c. Facilitate weekly communication with parents regarding lesson/activities
d. Serve as communication “hub” between Pastor/session, Parents, and Members
Maintain and re-order basic teacher/lesson related supplies
e. Maintain class rosters and updated directory
f. Review and implement child protection policies/practices
g. Participate in staff meetings
4. Supervision, Teaching & Training
a. Provide oversight of all class teachers/assistants
b. Perform periodic review of curriculum effectiveness with input from teachers and
parents
c. Provide oversight for nursery coordinator (New Life Mission Church) and/or
volunteers for both 10AM and 12PM service
d. Create systems for traffic/flow, ensuring that ministry space is safe, organized,
effective; direct support staff and volunteers in setting up of rooms
e. Prepare/teach lesson as a substitute when needed
f. Lead adult training/equipping meetings; routinely encourage teachers and
members/volunteers
5. Parent/Family Liaison
a. Develop supportive, collaborative relationships with parents of children
b. Coordinate with pastor and session when parent support, child development, and
discipline needs arise
c. Provide necessary support to families to assist in the spiritual nurture of children at
home
6. Special Events
a. Plan, coordinate, and implement special events for Children’s ministry (including
but not limited to Trunk-or-Treat, Easter Picnic, and VBS)
b. Plan and implement childcare/activities for church-wide events as needed
Qualifications
● Prior experience with local church children’s ministries required
● Degree from an accredited Seminary with strong convictions for reformed theology and
ministry preferred
● Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills with adults and children;
personable demeanor and relational style
● Strong administrative, organizational, and problem-solving skills
● Flexible, able to adapt quickly within a growing (i.e., changing) church environment
● Embraces and is able to articulate New Life Pres’s vision, particularly as it relates to
children’s ministry
● Background check required; experience in infant/child CPR certification preferred;
Summary: Provide spiritual, logistical, and relational leadership for New Life Pres’s children’s
ministry (ages: nursery-5th grade)
Hours: Half Time (20-25 hours/week)
