EPC Background

San Jose Emmanuel Presbyterian Church English Ministry (“EPC EM”) is a growing church located in the heart of Silicon Valley.  EPC EM is one of the ministries of EPC, partnering with the EPC Korean Ministry (KM:1100 congregants).  EPC EM is made up of ~150 members and we have had strong growth over the past couple years. We are looking for a new lead pastor to serve and grow the church in faithfulness after the Gospel.

Role & Responsibilities of Pastoral Position

  • Primary: Lead the English Ministry in pursuing the Gospel and making disciples of Jesus Christ.
    • Primary preacher and teacher of EPC EM.
    • Lead in coordinating worship and planning for ministry events with lay leaders.
    • Shepherd, engage and provide pastoral care for the EM flock.
    • Prepare and lead the church after Bible study, discipleship and Gospel living.
    • Oversee Life Groups and community building ministries of the EM along with lay leaders.
    • Join fellow EM leaders in engaging with the Korean Ministry (KM) to grow  in an interdependent relationship (e.g. joint services, opportunities for engagement, staff meetings etc).
    • Walk with the EM Elder(s) and the deacon team to prayerfully and faithfully serve the church together as a servant-leader team.
  •  Secondary Responsibilities as a Pastor of EPC:
    • Empower, build out and disciple fellow pastors and current servant-leaders to mature and flourish in serving the church after ministry teams and mission.
    • Coordinate church administration needs with lay leaders and the pastoral team.
    • Administer the sacraments on a regular basis and foster active discipleship through membership.



  • Graduated from an accredited seminary with at least a “Master of Divinity” (M.Div).
  • Prefer at least 5 years of full-time pastoral ministry experience.
  • Above reproach and able to exhibit the Gospel in life and character (Titus 1:6-9; 1 Timothy 3:2).
  • Character, Competence and a clear Calling for ministry.
  • Must be fluent in English. Bilingual in English and Korean is a plus.
  • Ordination or plans to pursue ordination if not already ordained.

  • To be a part of the life of the church and be present at all worship services and church events
    (excluding excused absences and vacation time).
  • To be sensitive, wise, self-aware and pastoral in serving and growing with the church.
  • To practice good judgment and discernment in confidentiality with sensitive church information.
  • To contribute to the practical life of the church through tithing.
  • Able or willing to learn relevant ministry software and programs (MS Office, Slack, Google apps etc).
  • Able and willing to submit to church leadership and the by-laws, pastoral policies, theological positions, pastoral handbook and direction of EPC.


Pastoral Compensation

  • Total Compensation & Benefits
    Package starting at $95,000 (depending on experience, ordination, life circumstances etc)

    • Package includes: housing allowance (if ordained), healthcare, cell phone & gas allowance, continuing education, conferences, annual study break, built-in sabbatical structure, life insurance, paid family leave, etc.
